Active Body = Active Soul

What is your favorite way to be active?

After a few months of working from home, I recently had to re-evaluate my diet. Although a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch is a super delicious way to start every morning, my scale seemed to keep adding weight to my total pounds. SO, I finally got motivated to get active (and stop eating so much cinnamon toast crunch)!

Last week I started a new daily routine: bringing my prayer notebook to pray through as I walked on my treadmill, and do devotionals while I walk. Needless to say, Which I found it amusing that one specific devotional I read, while walking on my treadmill, was on the benefit of being active.

The writer based this thought on

3 John 1:2:

"Where John says Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit."

According to this verse, good health goes well with our soul.

When life throws disappointments at us, it’s easy to react by hiding. The writer, who admitted to not being someone who enjoys exercise, said that she recommends that instead of hiding, to get moving. Her thought process was that if you are keeping your body stagnant during uncertain times, you are choosing to keep your mind stagnant as well. Moving your body, changing up your scenery, getting out of bed or off the couch can keep your mind activated.

What are your thoughts on that?

My challenge for you is when your soul is aching or your mind is clouded, just try moving. You don’t have to go run a mile, you can do anything that takes energy. Go organize a closet, take your dog for a walk, pull a few weeds, work on a new recipe or craft. “Being active” can be anything that creates movement in your body, distracts your mind from your current reality, or encourages you to cast your cares on the Lord.

For me, I have been walking on my treadmill and praying. I have found this time to take away distractions and enjoy prayer like never before. This has been so healthy for my soul.

Sometimes just deciding to do something is half the battle. Getting healthy or keeping fit is a daily work in progress. It’s not something we can do one time and then forget about it. Kind of like our faith. It is a daily undertaking. Constantly seeking to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

What are 3 easy ways to move your body, that feel natural for you, to choose from the next time you are feeling uncertain?
